tonight about the cold case disappearance of 10-year-old kevin collins. for the first time, san francisco police are publicly acknowledging a suspect, or to use their term, a person of interest. the man, now deceased had many aliases and a criminal record. >> reporter: 10-year-old kevin collins remains frozen in time. he disappeared while waiting for a bus after school in san francisco's haight-ashbury neighborhood in 1984. >> this is a case that haunts the san francisco police department and the city of san francisco. >> reporter: today police revealed new details about wayne jackson. police say he fits the physical description of the man collins was last seen talking to. >> he lived not far from where the abduction happened. he had a dog similar to the dog that the suspect was seen to have. >> reporter: at the time, eyewitnesses and a consense search of jackson's house failed to conclusively tie him to the case. jackson had five different identities, and a history of kidnapping, lewd acts, and sexual assaults against boys in canada, and one at fisherman's wharf in the years before colli

is for workplace violence. we had a press conference today on the kevin collins case. a search warrant was served late last week or last week. what happened was when the cold case units were transitioning, they decided to take another look at it. they came up with a suspect who had basically kidnapped a juvenile out of a store in 1981 for which he was arrested. he absconded, was arrested again on a warrant in '82. he was convicted. he lives right basically across the street from where kevin collins was taken. he has a large black dog. witnesses that saw the suspect said that the suspects had a large black dog. this suspect was contacted back in 1984, interviewed, denied, consent search to his residence. photo spread shown. the witnesses were unable to pick him out. so, he was not -- absent any other evidence, he was not able to be proceeded upon at the time. they developed further information that he committed two other sexual assaults on minors, 13 year old boys in canada. more information was developed. those leads are continuing to be followed at which point in time they were able to secure a

in the 1984 san francisco kidnapping of kevin collins. dan therrian, who went by the name of 'kelly' lived in the haight ashbury home police searched earlier this week. they were looking for clues into collins disappearance. this is a 2003 drivers license picture of therrian. he died back in 2008. therrian's masonic avenue home is located right across the street from kevin's school. kron fours' terisa estacio talked with collins mother about this newest information. ann collins remembers some of these distinctive details with this man that matched the description. in the past, credible witnesses in the past saying that he was last seen with a man with a black dog. this man, who went by the name " kelly ". also had a dog. they do not remember police identified him by name but just focused a suspect of a neighbor that lived near the bus stop. and as far as why now? they are digging up the ground where he used to live at whashe.. as for fisheries and we have spoken to the new inspectors-she has spoken to her theories about the disappearance to the new inspector. she spoke to the new inspector
